Carter Federal Credit Union Taps
TNB to Manage Card Risk and Drive Growth
Dallas, January 26, 2009 - For Carter Federal Credit Union, managing card risk and growing a portfolio in uncertain economic times were the key factors in deciding to convert its card processing to TNB Card Services. The $140 million credit union will convert 1,700 card accounts, with balances of $2.4 million, to TNB.
Carter Federal, of Springhill, Louisiana, will tap TNB's portfolio consulting team to evaluate the card program and develop a strategic plan that will enable it to reach a growth goal of 15 percent in 2009. TNB will also assess the risk of the portfolio and optimize it by implementing changes to pricing, product, and credit lines to ensure risk is properly balanced with the credit union"s threshold.
"While growth is important to us, TNB's risk management expertise was also a major factor in our decision to convert our processing," said Tim Shields, vice president of credit administration for Carter Federal Credit Union. "Being in a casino town increases our risk. We have to monitor our accounts more closely for things such as cash advances that are drawn at casinos. To do this we need top-notch management tools that can peer into the individual account, as well as experts on hand, to advise us how to mitigate risk."
Carter Federal will also implement TNB's Rewards2U® loyalty program to increase card usage and competitiveness, as well as offer the MasterCard® Family Account™, which will enable it to reach younger "Gen Y" family members. The credit union has also committed to being more proactive in marketing its card by leveraging TNB"s marketing efforts, which include campaigns for acquisition, usage, and retention.
The 55-year old federally chartered credit union has six retail branches and serves more than 22,000 members in communities located in northwest Louisiana and southwest Arkansas.
